Our Team

Mickey R. Davis, Partner

Mickey is a partner with Davis & Willms, PLLC.  He received his undergraduate degree (B.B.A. with high honors) from the University of Arizona and his law degree (J.D. with high honors) from the University of Texas.

Mickey is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a Fellow and Past Regent of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), where he is a former chair of the Estate and Gift Tax Committee and served as the Editor of The ACTEC Law Journal.  He is a member of ACTEC's Business Planning, Estate and Gift Tax, and Fiduciary Income Tax Committees, and served on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee. Mickey is the recipient of the 2023 Texas Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Section's (REPTL) Distinguished Probate Attorney Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the Jim D. Bowmer Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Profession by the Texas Bar College (2017) and was a recipient of the Standing Ovation Award by TexasBarCLE staff (2017).  He is listed in Best Lawyers in America (Trusts and Estates), and is also a licensed CPA (retired).

In addition to his law practice, Mickey is a frequent speaker on trust and estate planning and administration topics at state and national conferences, such as the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, ALI CLE Planning Techniques for Large Estates, Southern Federal Tax Institute, Notre Dame Tax and Estate Planning Institute, Federal Tax Institute of New England, and The University of Texas School of Law Annual Tax Conference.  Mickey also served for 30 years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Law Center, where he taught Income Taxation of Trusts and Estates, and Postmortem Estate Planning. Mickey is also a member of the Board of the Texas Real Estate and Probate Institute, which is involved in monitoring and drafting Texas legislation relating to probate, trust, estate, and related issues.

Melissa J. Willms, Partner

Melissa J. Willms is a partner with Davis & Willms, PLLC. She received her undergraduate degrees (B.A. in Sociology, B.A. in Psychology) from the University of Texas at Austin, her law degree (J.D.) from Texas Tech University School of Law, and her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Tax Law from the University of Houston Law Center.

Melissa is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  She is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), where she serves as Treasurer of the College and is a member of the Board of Regents.  She is a member of the Estate and Gift Tax, Fiduciary Income Tax, Long Range Planning, and Program Committees.  She has served as ACTEC's Secretary, State Chairs Steering Committee Chair, Texas State Chair, and Rocky Mountain Region Chair. Melissa served on the Board of The ACTEC Foundation. She also served as Vice President and Secretary of the Foundation and Chair and Co-Chair of its Grant Committee.  She is listed in Best Lawyers in America (Trusts and Estates) and as a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine.

In addition to her trusts and estates practice, Melissa is a frequent speaker on estate and trust planning and administration topics at state and national conferences such as the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, The Center for American and International Law Annual Short Course on Estate Planning, UK/CLE Midwest-Midsouth Estate Planning Institute, ALI CLE Planning Techniques for Large Estates, Southern Federal Tax Institute, Notre Dame Tax and Estate Planning Institute, Duke University Estate Planning Conference, Federal Tax Institute of New England, and The University of Texas School of Law Annual Tax Conference.  Melissa was awarded the Standing Ovation Award for 2015 by the TexasBarCLE staff.

Melissa is the Chair of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas (REPTL).  She is a past member of REPTL's Council and a past Chair and member of its Decedents' Estates Committee, where she was involved in drafting legislation for the Texas Estates Code.  Melissa is also a past member of the Council of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas. 

Austin M. Potts, Associate

Austin M. Potts is an associate at Davis & Willms, PLLC, in Houston, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. Austin serves clients in the areas of estate planning, taxation, business succession planning, probate, and estate administration and is admitted to practice law in the State of Texas.

Whitney A. Webster, Legal Assistant

Whitney is a Legal Assistant at Davis & Willms, PLLC. She recieved her Bachelors degree in Apparel Merchandising from Auburn University. She assists the firm's attorneys and clients with all aspects of our practice.
